Q: Does anyone knows whether the anti depressant drug “Cymbalta” really helps fight depression and worry?
For years now I have suffered from depression and I have tried other anti depressant drugs like Zoloft, Paxil, and Lexapro and these drugs did not help me at all. I would appreciate it alot if someone here can give me some information about the drug Cymbalta if you used it before or know of someone who have used the drug before.

A: Patent expires next year. So unless they find a way to extend the patent on it, as soon as some company picks up making a generic and gets it FDA tested and aproved after that

Q: Is there a generic for the drug Cymbalta?
I’ve been thinking of asking my doctor to switch me from Celexa, which I’ve been on now for 6 years, before that I was on Prozac, to Cymbalta. I’ve been taking antidepressants most my life due to a chemical imbalance in my brain causing severe depression and the Celexa seems to have stopped helping. I just can’t afford to pay too much for something new. Please let me know if there is a generic. Thanks!

Q: Has anyone tried the new depression drug Cymbalta?
How did it make you feel when you started taking it?
I guess I should have pointed out that I started on 60 today (my doc apparently decided to just skip 30) – and I don’t feel anything. Literally. Which is better than the depression, but my question is whether or not the “drugged/stoned” feeling goes away?

A: I started on Cymbalta a week and a half ago – 30 mg per day. Let me just say first, that I have suffered from depression on and off for the last 6 years. I tried Paxil (full blown panic attack, rushed to ER on day two), Sersone (just made me sleep all the time), Celexa (weird like Paxil), and Wellbutrin (awful headache day one and stopped it). I gave up on SSRIs. Last year, I started taking St. John’s Wort, after one month I felt great – almost happy and blissful, but at month two I started having dizzy spells so badly I had to stop it. Tried cutting dosage in half, but then had awful headaches. Depressed again. My doctor prescribed Cymbalta a week and a half ago. I started taking it thinking how soon before I get side effects and have to stop? This drug thus far has been a godsend for me. My doctor kept saying to me even though you’ve not been able to find the right anti-depressant yet, don’t give up. I glad I didn’t give up. I just hope I can keep taking it without any ill effects. The only side effects I am having right now are I sleep about 10 hours a night and I have dry mouth at night. Otherwise, it has cut the edge off of my anxiety and I feel very calm and relaxed. Cymbalta has definitely worked for me thus far. I guess I will be upping my dosage to 60 mg. soon and I will get back to you. Let me know how it fares for you if you take it.

does anyone know if weight loss is a side effect? I am already depressed about gaining so much weight, and i am now on cymbalta..does it make you gain weight? someone told me a side effect is losing weight…i just dont want to gain weight, i am worried about that.

A: I’ve been taking Cymbalta since Fall 2005. I was worried about weight gain, too, but during my research I couldn’t find any information that said it was a side effect. My psychiatrist said he hadn’t heard of that problem, either.

Trust me, take it. It works. I am Bipolar and my episodes had been getting more frequent and more severe until I started taking this drug. I still have them, of course, but they are so improved I feel like a new person. I’ve been on so many different drugs that either didn’t work or stopped after prolonged use, that I am very conscious of what it can do to my weight. I’ve learned that it’s a heck of a lot better to have a healthier outlook on life. If you gain weight, make a more conscious effort to cut back on sugary drinks, fast-food, empty calorie snacks, etc. This may have made a difference: once I started taking the Cymbalta I found myself actually wanting to exercise which certainly contributed to weight loss.

If you have any questions, consult the PDR (Physicians Desk Reference). Your local library should have a copy if you don’t want to ask your therapist to see his. For even more up-to-date information, ask your pharmacist for the information sheet that comes with each bottle. It will give you all the information you’d find in a PDR anyway.

Take it from me, it’s a lot easier to lose a few pounds than it is to live with depression/anxiety/whatever the reason you’re on the drug.

Q: What is the best way to quit a drug like Cymbalta? Do you know of any ways to lessen the withdrawal symptoms?

A: You need to gradually come off of it and follow doctors orders. Do not go cold turkey or stop it too quickly. There is not much you can do about withdrawl symptoms. If they are gonna happen they will. Just plan for atleast 2 weeks for withdrawl symptoms.

My husband has BiPolar and the doctor had told him to quite taking Risperdal which he had only been taking a few months and he didn’t know you can’t quit it cold turkey. He nearly landed himself in the hospital because the withdrawls were so bad. He was having hullicinations, stomach aches, headaches, sweating, shaking, bad depression and panic attacks and the list goes on. Just be careful. Any of these mind altering drugs are not good for you.

Q: What are some side-effects of the drug Cymbalta?

A: “The most common side effects noted with duloxetine are nausea (experienced by about 1 to 2 of every 5 patients), dry mouth (1 of 6), constipation (1 of 9), diarrhea (1 of 10), fatigue (1 of 10), difficulty sleeping (1 of 9), dizziness (1 of 10). Between two and four times as many people who received duloxetine during clinical studies had to stop treatment and drop out of the study due to side effects than those receiving placebo.

Antidepressants may increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children and adolescents with depression. Patients who are started on duloxetine or another antidepressant should be observed closely for clinical worsening, suicidal thinking and behavior, or unusual behavior. The average risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in patients receiving antidepressants is about 4% (or 1 per 25), twice the placebo risk of 2%.”

***personally, you know my views on drugs. especially anti-depression drugs. prolly about 80% of the time, depression is caused by factors in your life that, by using a good therapist, you can overcome perfectly fine. If you ARE one of the 20% or so who has depression caused by a chemical imbalance, there are alternative methods to treating this besides drugs, including exercise, a change in diet, massage (!! it’s true !! I studied it in school), etc.

Q: I take 90 mg Cymbalta, cost is huge. Should I order from Can. or find similar working drug?
I have seen same drug from reliable Canadian drugs (not generic) at $176.00 (versus $318.00 I pay). If I can find a similar working effective drug that is more reasonable this would be even better. Cymbalta does work well, but my pharmacist says there are many others of similar content for much less money.

Q: Other drug besides cymbalta?
I am tired, fatigued, down a lot. I used to be on cymbalta. I weaned myself off due to side effects. Is there another drug out there that can help me feel better?

A: I am on Cymbalta now. I wish I knew what side effects you were having. Another good anti depressant is effexor xr. It is similar to cybalta, it has less side effects. Ask your doc about it!

Q: could cymbalta/duloxentine cause a false positive result in a drug screen?
I took a drug screen for employment and was never called back, I have not taken cymbalta for 6 weeks, but is there a chance it could have shown up as something else?

A: If cymbalta was prescribed for you by a doctor, please take it as directed until the doctor tells you not to. Having even moods and a good attitude will help you get that job and the presciption helps that.
A drug test will not stop you from getting a job or interview just because you took a PRESCRIPTION drug. They are only looking for illegal drugs. Do not eat anything made with toasted poppy seeds on it though, as that can sometimes give a false positive for heroin.

A: Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Cymbalta.

A: I am taking it. And it works for me. I had a complete breakdown. My doctor prescribed other stuff first but they did not work.
I am happy with this one. I do not feel low like before. I do not feel like jumping with joy either but it has helped me a lot.

Can anyone tell me about the drug cymbalta when its not being used for depression? I have a chronic terminal illness and my specialist prescribed it today to help with the pain. I have been reading up on it on webmd, etc… but all of the info. is related to treatment of depression. Has anyone else used it for pain relief and if so, can you please tell me about it? A: Cymbalta is a drug that is mainly used for 2 things.

1} Nerve Damage

2} People that have diabetes and have pain shooting down their legs.

This was the original purpose for the drug Cymbalta.

It was also found that it was very useful for Depression.

I was on up to 40 pills a day for my nerve damage Rose.

The only thing that helped was Cymbalta.

And Rose we are all terminal.

Q: cymbalta the drug?
Has anyone taking this drug had sexual dysfunction? I cannot seem to reach an orgasium…:( I have been on Cymbalta since the beginning of July…..Would or could someone shed some light…………I would really appreciate it…Thanks:)

A: yes, but there’s a but… I used to take other medication {paxil} that has been known to do the same thing and thus when I switched drugs I just attributed it as the same sort of side effect… i’ve been taking one of these two though ever since I started being sexually active and thus I too worry because what if there is just something wrong with me in “that” way. i don’t know for sure but yeah i think ur not alone.

A: Like many other drugs, Cymbalta can be used for indicated diagnoses such as depression but in this case can actually help with associated back pain and spasming. Usually depression is accompanied by sleep disturbances so the drug may help with that also. Although new on the market, so far the results seem to be good.
