Q: Any tablets i can buy to help depression or lift my mood?
i have depression and did go to the dr’s but didn’t get tablets, i was just wondering if there is any tablets or anything i can buy to help, especially as i get very moody so really want something to help me be in a better mood?
I eat healthly and do lots of exercise.
Alot of you have said St John’s Wort tablets are good, any idea on how long they take to start to work? i.e as soon as you take them or have to take for like a month.

A: I know it’s probably not the answer you want to hear but I’d be inclined to say that you should think of alternatives to medication. If your depression is not too severe and you are coping relatively well, why not try some lifestyle changes instead? I firmly believe that eating a diet full of wholesome food, taking omega 3 fish oils (or other ‘brain food’ supplements full of vitamins and minerals missing from the modern-day diet) can really help to regulate mood. If you have real depression it may not clear completely but the point is that you have to look at your environment and what could be causing your depression externally, as well as internally. Don’t automatically fall for the medical model as so many others have. Fill your life and your mind with people and things which are good for your soul and get rid of anything that does you damage. Think about it deeply.

Q: How to deal with depression? Help me please.?
So I’m 16 years old, and I’m a male (Just thought I’d throw my gender in there.) Recently, I’ve been getting really depressed again (I started getting depressed in 7th grade). I used to cut myself, but then I stopped for 2 years, then about a couple nights ago, I cut myself. I’ve been starting to do it again, and I really want to stop. I don’t know why I do it, but it just seems to take my mind away from everything. I am having a really hard time dealing with my depression. I get depressed everytime I’m home, and I always get suicidal thoughts. I know I should go to the doctor, but my mom doesn’t seem to remember to schedule a doctor’s appointment for me, and I know all they are going to do is put me on pills or send me to therapy. I don’t really want to take pills that would increase my suicidal thoughts and I heard therapy doesn’t work.

I think the reason for my depression is because I have to repeat Freshman year for the 3rd year in a row, I’m on an online school, I never get to see my friends, I never get to leave the house, and I don’t have a license. I think my parents hate me, my brother treats me like crap, and I feel like I annoy everyone. That’s where the suicidal thoughts kick in. I try to listen to music to keep me happy, or watch a movie or something, but nothing ever works. Everywhere I go, I always put a fake smile on and act like nothing is wrong, when there is something wrong.

I know you all heard this before and all that, but I just need some help and I didn’t feel like searching because I’m lazy right now. So any advice on what to do, besides go to a doctor, would really help. Also please no negative answers. Thanks.

A: Sometimes depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in our bodies and sometimes it occurs in response to stressful life events. Whatever the cause – the most important issue is that you seek help so that you do not have to live with these unpleasant feelings.

It is not necessary that you suffer with all these unpleasant feelings. Depression is a treatable condition that can be brought under control with medication, therapy or a combination of both. If you were a minor it would be important that you let your parent know how you have been feeling so they can assist you as you go through this difficult time. If they have trouble recognizing that you are depressed and feel that every body goes through this phase, ask them to at least get you evaluated by a mental health professional because you feel it is more serious than just a phase.

If your depression gets to the point that you feel like hurting yourself or are scared of what you might do, then you need to seek help immediately. You can call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room.
Hope it helps..Good luck and take care of yourself Always.

Q: cutting, depression, scared.. help?
i dont know what to do.

i give up of stuff so easily and in 15 years old.
i need to study for my school cert but i cane bring myself to do it.
so much to explain but i cut myself and i moost likely have depression because i have many of the symptoms.
but that part that is more weird is how i get scared of myself for cutting myself.

i dont know what to do?
is it normal?
aargh help?

A: I had the same problem in school I was socially awkward and couldn’t hardly even socialize with people it got so bad to the point in my life I quit school and cut myself and everything like that so what happened to me was is I went to the doctor and they diagnosed me with bipolar disorder they give you like a test for it and they prescribed me lexapro and it has worked a bit but everyone is different some people cannot take lexapro some take zoloft, paxil, prozac, and many others so what you need to do is talk to your doctor and get a bpd test and maybe even go to a therapist for any problems you have and if they do prescribe you medication please take it you may not think that it works but in the next few weeks you will see big changes anyway hope this helped good luck.

Q: Can marijuana help cure the common cold/depression?
manless U.S. drones just killed 23 people in Pakistan… McCain is going to win and put Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency… … and on top of that i have a cold… dare i go to the store and get some medical marijuana for my ailments? Will it work?

A: No it will make it about 100 times worse actually. Marijuana is extremely dangerous as an illegal drug and it is a legal price you have to deal with as well. It can kill you the first time you use it just as with any other illegal drug and if you are found in possession with it you could get thirty or more years in a federal prison. There is no such thing as safe Marijuana. Find a safer alternative that would actually work say something like a prescription drug or an antihistamine?

Q: i dont have the money for therapy so how can i help my depression?

A: In Texas we have something called MHMR. They evaluate your financial situation and mental state then give you help accordingly. I’m sure every state has something similar.

Q: REALLY need your help. . .depression or just the medication??? PLEASE?
Ok I am 13, and I have shingles. The second day of taking the medication to make it go away, I became VERY tired. I could barely stay awake 2 hours at a time. I have stayed home from school because of thye great amout of pain the shingles caused, but my doctor said the meds shouldnt make me sleepy. But something did! My mom suggested deppression? Idk why. I am very happy with life, just tired for NO particular reason. . . Any ideas?

PLEASE&THANKS!

BTW nothing has happened recently to make me feel anxiety?

A: Are you eating enough food in the day. For energy. And are you getting normal sleep, and undisturbed sleep.
Are you doing any activity to make you tired.

Apart from that, make sure you tell the doctor how you feel, so that he can try to find out why, and improve it. And tell him about your food, and sleep.

If you can’t stay awake for more than 2 hours at a time, there is definitely something wrong. And you should make sure the doctor takes you seriously. If the medicine is all you are doing differently, then it can be the medicine. So make sure he checks it. Or tries you with a different one.

Lastly did he check your weight, and that you are not too underweight to have a problem about having enough energy for your body to work.
Or are you having your period, and it could make you tired? If so he should do some blood tests, and check for anemia (lack of blood to replace blood lost in the period, or lack of iron in the blood) mention that to him.
Also blood tests for blood sugar level, or diabetes, are a good idea too.

I hope you feel better and more energy soon. And that the shingles also gets improved.

Have a good week. Keep the doctor informed of whatever symptoms you experience. Maybe write down a record each day.

Q: i suffer from depression and want to tell my friends was told would help deal with it?
but dont know how to say it to them really am to nervous about how they ll react

A: Depression is nothing to be embarrassed about it is very common. It is true if you tell your friends then it would help you deal with it, i know from my experience. Your friends wont treat you any different, it will help them also because if one day your quite and feeling sad they will know it is not because of them. Just tell your friends the truth they will be able to deal with it and don’t see any reason why they should react in any bad way. I hope you tell them soon and helps you to deal with it GOOD LUCK :)

Q: why do people think depression is a character flaw?
i have depression and i’m sick of people telling me it’s a character flaw. first off, bipolar and major depression runs 4 generations on my mom’s side of the family. i am 16 yo and i know that my thinking is irrational, yet i can’t help it. before my depression, i have read more self-help books than anyone has ever read and have spent years working on my “character”. why do people think depression is a character flaw?

A: I’m like you – a person with a mind illness and a long family history of it, also. I know what you mean.

I think that many people don’t understand mind illnesses, and statements like you describe are just the result of their ignorance in combination with a genuine desire to be “helpful.”

Q: Depression help?
I get pretty depressed sometimes, usually with pms… bleh. Does anyone have any natural remedies? I’d like to try some before hitting the meds.

A: Exercise has been shown to help with depression. Also make sure you are getting enough sleep and eat healthy for the most part. That should help at least try the exercise I know that works. If you feel depressed even with that you may want to look into medications but you don’t sound like you’re depressed a lot of the time just around that time of the month so exercise might really help. Good luck.

Q: Depression.Help?
i am depressed and i dont know why? how can i get out of depression

A: First you need to talk to your doctor and figure out if it is situational depression due to something going on in your life right now, or if it is clinical depression and you need an antidepressant. Make sure to get out in the fresh air and sunlight, get exercise. Find some things that make you happy, talk to someone you can trust. And know that you are not alone, many people suffer from depression and it does get better. Try keeping a journal when you are feeling down, write down all of the things that are bothering you and all of your feelings. Just getting them out and down on paper can help. Good Luck and take care of you.

Q: depression help?
my friend is depressed. she hasnt been eating and can never sleep and she never really wants to go out anymore. ive been looking at websites about tips with depression and all of them say you should go see a therapist. i told her she should but her mom always says that she doesnt believe in depression and that people should tough it out. i make myself available to talk but is there anything else i can do? is there anything she can say to her mom? any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

A: There are so many suffering kids with parents who just refuse to understand.

I like the idea of talking with the school counselor. Also her pediatrician should be helpful. She could tell her mom that she hasn’t been feeling well and that she needs to go to the doctor to see if she has something like anemia. People with anemia feel lethargic. The doctor will probably want to give her a blood test anyway. She could call the doctor in advance and tell the doctor that she feels depressed but that her mother doesn’t believe in depression. The doctor can prescribe anti-depressant medication and refer her to a therapist.

The other thing you could do is call the national alliance for the mentally ill and ask for some pamphlets on depression. www.nami.org. You could either provide them to her mother or give them to the doctor so the doctor can give them to the mother.

You could call the Girls and Boys Town Hotline 800 – 448 – 3000. This phone line is available to children who can’t access their parent’s help for one reason or another.

Last year, a boy in my son’s school was so depressed and suicidal that he friends were warning his father. The father yelled at the friends. The kid asked his father if he could borrow some rope and made up an excuse for the use of the rope. He hung himself. Ignorance on the part of parents can have horrible consequences.

Q: Depression Help?
I am a 14 year old kid, my life is very depressing. To personal to release here on Yahoo Answers, and to long. And I have had serious thoughts of suicide, and I really want help.

I’m in therapy and the therapist I have is not help whatsoever.. Whenever I bring something up he either doesn’t want to talk about it and tries to move on, laughs at it, or just totally ignores it. But my parents won;t let me get another therapist.

So I know that their are depression pills out there. But like they say in the commercial these pills for teens and kids may increase thoughts of suicide. Is their some special kind of depression pills for 14 years olds. I really need help.

A: just get some exercise and you will feel better. i promise.

she thinks and talks about sex all the time

she calls herself ugly all the time
she gets really nervous and starts crying and shaking
the worst day of the week for this is always thirsdays when she refuses to go to school
i spoke to her teachers and they said in class she doesn’t stop laughing, but laughing without really stopping to breathe.
She cries all the time, just a little thing will set her off.
she’ll start something, then not finish it.

help!
She blames the fact that me and her mum moved her away from her friends (we moved to london) and the school she went to was really rough, she used to skip school and she’s really not the type of girl to do that. Her mum moved away with her and left me. She started a new school where she didn’t settle into until about a year in. All of a sudden its all started again, skipping school. etc…

This is her 5th school since the beginning of year 7 and she is now in year 10.
this is also her 15th house

A: Sounds like a typical teenager but I understand your concerns. Have you tried to speak to anyone about this, like your doctor or a counsellor as there could be a problem.

Q: Depression? HELP?
Alright, I need to talk and let the inside of me breath. I’m Junior, a normal 16 year old boy. Latley, a lot has happend. Finally, I got all my honor classes switched to AP. I’m really glad and all, but I feel so overwelmed..that sometimes I randomly cry. I had surgery about 1 week ago. I’m fine now, but I feel so delicate. I feel like I get very depressed, and VERY FAST. Like..I said..I cry just randomly. I get this sad and depression thoughts about my life. Is this signs of depression? or..? just a phase or something? I need help.
I would like to let eveyrone know, that I am Christian. My parents are pastors of a really lovley church. Thanks though, for the ones that gave me the option of accepting Jesus. :)

A: This is stress building up in your system. Even good things can cause stress–a new job, a new relationship, promotion like what you’ve had. Talk to someone, whether it be a good friend, school counsellor, or the samaritans.
Eliminate other sources of stress in your life, and maybe learn some relaxation techniques.
Antidepressants from a doctor may help, but PLEASE only use them for a short while. As in 6 mos, max. They may treat the symptoms but they’re not a cure, they don’t solve the problem causing the stress. And you can get addicted; I did. When I was in college my situation was like yours and they just kept feeding me pills. You’ll learn to deal with the pressures eventually, it’s just the shock of the new.
And don’t be afraid to admit it if it all gets to be too much. Nobody’s perfect. You don’t want to crash and burn. Make sure you take some time to relax, get some exercise, and forget about your studies from time to time.

Q: DEPRESSION??? ….!!!!…??? Help…?

A: 1. Be patient, dont ponder over things 4 long
2.nothing under the sun doesn’t have a solution, try consulting ur parents/collegues/friends if u have any problem
3.be satisfied! If u think u r the only person who is witnessing depression, then u would not have seen the sufferings of people
4.try being engaged in any activity u like
5.read any sacred book selecting any page randomly
