What are some signs of depression that can show in a 6th grader?
Please do not be rude.
A: You are not depressed you are just going through a phase of teen angst and rebellion against your parents or school. The best thing too do is stay far away from any drugs that the schools or doctors might provide and go out and live life too the fullest. Turn that angst into something creative IE: Learn an instrument, paint or draw, start cooking, build models or other crafts. The biggest problem today is that kids are put through school almost like a machine with little to no chance of getting out and seeing the world. Get on a mountain bike with some friends grab some granola and plenty of water and do some good riding in your nearest park or mountainy area, breath in deeply. Always remember you are a free human being and if you don’t want to do something than don’t do it but if you want to do something then you better go out and do it. Never let anyone control your life!
This quote from Ed Abbey always makes me feel a lot better:
“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am — a reluctant enthusiast… a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here.
“So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space.
“Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.” -Edward Abbey
Q: What are some signs of depression in teens?
OKay, well i think i may be going through depression. I am 15 years old, and at school people always say i never have seen you mad/sad etc. and then at home i am a witch with a B. i seperate myself from everyone i always cry. could these be possible signs of depression? what can i do about it. this has been going on for awhile. Even though i try not to be mean and everything, i just cant help it. people making me mad in the slightest way just makes me blow up
(ps. its not PMS)
oh yeah. i thought of a better explination. i just lash out at people.
sometimes i just want to run away. and then othertimes i just want to hide in a corner and never come out.
No, it might not be PMS, but it very well could be hormonal. As a teenager you’re going to have mood swings and get a little upset. From what you describe you sound like a normal kid. You’ve heard of teenage angst right?
The signs of depression in teenagers or anyone really goes further than crying and occasional mood swings and anger. If you are feeling hopeless like life is not worth living, have low self esteem, feel empty, tired all the time, sleeping too little or too much (as a teen it’s normal to want to sleep 12 hours a night though), eating too little or too much, gaining or losing weight without trying, feel sad or irritable almost all of the time for a period of at least 2 weeks at a time, then you might be depressed.

Q: What are the symptoms and signs of depression in teenagers?
I think I may be clinically depressed but everyone thinks it’s just because I’m a teenager. But the hurt, emptiness and confusion are much too deep. What are the signs of clinical depression, specifically in teens? Thanks =)
A: Hurt, emptiness, and confusion are quite normal in teens and every teen that has them thinks they are much too deep. It is a normal stage of growing up. Feeling sad after a disappointment is normal and there are a lot of instances for being disappointed in your teen years.
The source link I provide gives you not only the basic symptoms but the difference between normal occurance of those symptoms and abnormal occurance of those symptoms.
There is no quick fix to these feelings even if you do have clinical depression other than to find things you do well and focus on those when you get “down”. Antidepressants do not always work well in adults, and in teens and preteens they are even less effective and you only get as much out of therapy as you put into it.
Q: What are some early signs of depression?
I feel really tired lately and I have to put in heaps off effort just to be my usual perky, insane self. I also haven’t been able to sleep.
Are these early signs of depression? I don’t know why I would have it I’m doing well in school and have great friends….
A: It could be depression, but if all you feel is tired, not hopeless, helpless, sad, etc, something else might be up. I’d suggest seeing a doctor… I used to feel like that and turned out I was deficient in iron and vitamin D! I felt much better when I took supplements. Not saying that’s your problem, just that lots of things can make you feel that way. Too much stress (even stress caused just from being busy with good things) can also cause that feeling. You should get it checked out regardless. Hope that helps!
Q: Whats the signs of depression and bio polar ?
Whats the signs of depression and bio polar how do people feel ?
A: Hi!
Depression is a very nasty thing indeed. In spite of everything that they may see or hear, the patient will feel completely useless, like nobody likes them or nobody wants them around. Often, they will also keep asking themselves “What’s the point?”. Depression tends to build up over time due to environmental factors or it may just start over a period of time for no apparent reason. See this wikipedia article on Major Depressive Disorder (MDD):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_depressive_disorder
As for bipolar disorder (formerly known as manic depression), it is characterised by cycling periods of unexplained happiness, excitability and hyperactivity and low, depressed moods that happen for pretty much no reason (though there can be external stimulus). There are many types of bipolar disorder:
Bipolar I – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_I
Bipolar II – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_II
Cyclothymia – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclothymia
And episodes can be split into four categories:
Manic Episode: Characterised by extreme feelings of elation and happiness (but these can very in intensity) and possibly delusions and hallucinations in very severe episodes. Irritability, impatience and over-excitability can often present as well.
Hypomanic Episode: Slightly less extreme than manic episodes, these may just bring on a feeling of well-being and contentment, and can be associated with increased social functioning.
Depressive Episode: Like a spell of MDD (though it can vary greatly in intensity).
Mixed Episode: Essentially a manic and depressive episode combined. These can be dangerous, as individuals may become confused, frightened and disoriented (as with all episode types, intensity can vary).
In rare cases bipolar disorder may present in very rapid cycling, called “ultradian cycling bipolar disorder”. These cycles may only last for up to four hours each (unlike other types which happen over weeks or months).
Treatment may involve drugs such as Valproate Semisodium or Lithium (both are mood stabalisers) to allow bipolar disorder patients to function more normally. There is no cure for bipolar disorder.
I hope this helps!
Q: what are signs of depression, and how can you tell if someone is depressed?
what are the signs? and when is it bad enough that someone should seek help for depression?
A: Change of attitude, feeling sad or crying all the time, constant mood changes, feeling suicidal, don’t go outside or get out of bed, don’t feel loved, lashing out, self harming. I think you should seek help when you think you’ve depression and the dr will be able to see if you can get over it with out help of pills or counselling.
When i had postnatal depression i felt the only person who loved me was my son, i never wanted him out of my sight even if it was only my boyfriend taking him out of the room, i’d constantly argue with my boyfriend over nothing. i’d try and hurt myself and i left it so long i had to have pills to help me and was on them for 6 months. So i think you should seek help straight away.
Q: what are the signs of depression exactly?
how can i tell if im getting depressed? i just want to know the signs and if the feeling is a constant feeling.
A: There are several tell-tale signs of depression. First, the physical signs: fatigue, sleep disturbance (either sleeping too much or too little), change in appetite (either eating more or less than usual), and tension in the body. There are also mood changes: irritability, disinterest in things you would normally enjoy, disinterest in friends/family (i.e. less sociable than usual), feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and worthlessness, poor self-esteem, lack of motivation. Other signs include poor hygiene or an unkempt appearance. In order to be diagnosed with a depressive episode, these symptoms must have gone on for at least six weeks. If you think you are depressed, you should definitely see a mental health professional. This is especially important if you ever feel like harming yourself.
Q: What are signs of depression and mid life crises in men?
My fience is never happy and always gripes. He does have depression but is taking medication for it. Maybe the meds have to be adjusted or maybe midlife crises or what else could be going on??
A: Antidepressant medications are usually only so helpful in treating depressive illnesses. It’s possible that an adjustment to your fiance’s medication regimen might help him, but therapy might also play a role in helping your fiance to see things less negatively. Generally speaking, antidepressant medications work best when combined with psychotherapy.
Q: Are a lack of energy and loss of appetite major signs of depression?
I have both of these symptoms, and I constantly feel really, really down. I mean, I smile and have fun all of the time, but I always have this weird, guilty feeling.
I always feel bad when I’m having fun, because I feel as though I don’t deserve to have a good time.
I’m known for being loud, funny and carefree, but I feel as though I have this bottomless hole in my stomach that just collects guilt and negative thoughts. I’m not content with myself, and to be perfectly honest, I dislike people who remind me of myself.
I rarely eat, and I never really feel hungry. I thought that may be the reason why I’m tired all of the time, but I’m not sure. I’m enegetic at school, but when I get home I sort of crash, and act all moody.
Does this sound like depression? I don’t want to unecessarily diagnose myself with something, but I don’t think the way that I feel is normal.
What are the other signs of depression?
Thanks for your help.
A: Bi-Polar Manic Depression,
You make others happy because you think your life sucks and by making them happy you are happy. However this is bad because you end up alone you always serve others,
Seriously seek help,
God Bless.
Q: what exactly are the the signs of depression?
what exactly are the signs of depression?
A: Here’s a lot of stuff in a little phrase: Sig E Caps
SIGECAPS stands for …
Sleep disturbance,
Interest (diminished),
Guilt or feeling worthless,
Energy (loss),
Concentration difficulties or indecisiveness,
Appetite abnormality or weight change,
Psychomotor retardation or agitation, and
Suicide or death (acts or thoughts of).
(has to be prolonged, like for a couple months or more)
Q: What are the signs of depression?
I think I may be depressed, but I was wondering what the signs of depression are. Thanks for any help.
A: There are lots of good web-sites where you can research these. Key is how long you’ve been feeling like this. If it’s just a few days, I would give myself some time. If it’s been a much longer time (weeks/months), then you should definitly ask for some help. Also check out self-help books, try exercising etc. The meds these days work pretty well, but in my humble opinion it’s not a long term solutions (especially for younger people)
“If you identify with several of the following signs and symptoms, and they just won’t go away, you may be suffering from clinical depression.
* you can’t sleep enough or you sleep too much
* you can’t concentrate or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult
* you feel worthless and hopeless
* you can’t control your negative thoughts, no matter how much you try
* you have lost your appetite or you can’t stop eating
* you are constantly irritated or become enraged even at small things – and this is new for you
* you have thoughts that life is not worth living, or have a plan for how you would end it (Seek help immediately if this is the case)”.
Q: What are some body health signs of depression?
Could fatigue, dizziness, and body aches be extra symptoms of depression?
A: Yes, when I get depressed sometimes I’m so tired I can hardly move or stay awake. I sometimes feel like I’m sleeping when I am moving. My thoughts can slow down like I’m too tired to even think. I tend to get more physical pain, muscle pain usually and pain in my abdomen too.
Of course, depression can be the result of other physical issues for example low thyroid, low iron, vitamin deficiencies etc. so any doctor worth their medical degree will discuss diet and do blood tests to rule out these issues before making a diagnosis of a major depressive episode.
It is not just because depression can be a serious yet treatable mental illness that it is important to see your doctor if you have symptoms. There are other illnesses and issues that can cause depression.
Q: Why is my dog showing signs of depression?
I have a twelve year old yellow labrador and lately, she hasn’t been wanting to eat, isn’t running around like she used to, and is showing sings of depression. I’m not sure what’s happening.
A: 0o0o0o0o0o Labs are wonderful dogs, and very lovable. 12 Years old is a long life for a lab and at this point you dog has seen her better years. Your dog is most likely in pain and not feeling well and she will never be the pup that you remember. I just lost my 11 year old lab and he showed the same signs in his last year or so. Fact is 11-12 is very old for these dogs. Its very hard loosing one of these dogs cos they get so close to ya.
Q: What are signs someone has depression?
What are the signs of depression, and what are some alternate solutions for fixing depression?
A: * Lowered self-esteem (or self-worth)
* Change in sleep patterns, that is, insomnia or broken sleep
* Changes in appetite or weight
* Less ability to control emotions such as pessimism, anger, guilt, irritability and anxiety
* Varying emotions throughout the day, for example, feeling worse in the morning and better as the day progresses
* Reduced capacity to experience pleasure: you can’t enjoy what’s happening now, nor look forward to anything with pleasure. Hobbies and interests drop off.
* Reduced pain tolerance: you are less able to tolerate aches and pains and may have a host of new ailments
* Changed sex drive: absent or reduced
* Poor concentration and memory: some people are so impaired that they think that they are going demented
* Reduced motivation: it doesn’t seem worth the effort to do anything, things seem meaningless
* Lowered energy levels.
All symptoms should last at least 2 weeks then you know it is clinical depression.
