Q: What is the problem with taking anti depressant medication and cold/flu medication together?
Medication is called Cymbalta (duloxetine 60mg) diagnosed for anxiety, the cold medication has pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg and Paracetamol 500mg & codeine phosphate 9mg. Whats the problem with taking these two meds together??
A: Ask a pharmacist…..only they will be aware of potential drug interactions. However, you have to consider you are taking a psychiatric drug that works on the neurotransmitters in your brain. Neurotransmitters in in your brain regulate EVERYTHING with your body. If you cause the wrong interactions, you could lower the threshold for seizures, and have seizures, you could seriously raise or lower your blood pressure or heart rate. And that is just a start. If you have already been told that you should not take that cold medication on the antidepressant, then dont. If you are asking if you can….ask your pharmacist.
Q: How quickly can you get side effects from duloxetine (Cymbalta) the anti-depressant?
I just started a new medication, duloxetine (Cymbalta), and took my first pill about 4 hours ago (1pm) and it’s now 5pm and I’m feeling very nauseous and light headed and altogether just odd.
Is it possible that the reason I feel sick is due to my new meds? Or do side effects take longer to appear?
The pill is a 30mg capsule with pellets inside. No idea if it’s fast releasing or slow.
The list of side effects contains nausea and lightheadedness.
I looked up on the internet and it looks like they’re delayed release capsules.
A: It really depends on the type of pill they gave you. Some are slow release and you really don’t feel any side effects while others just release all at the same time. I would read the package your med. came in and see what it has to say. If the way you are feeling are side effects listed then its probably from the medicine. You can always call your local pharmacist and ask them!
Q: I take duloxetine/Cymbalta 60mg for Anxiety?
I have been taking it each day for about 2 months, I seams to help a bit, has any one else taken this medication and what is you views and experiences? thank you
A: GET OFF OF CYMBALTA!!!
I have taken cymbalta for a year and it helped for a short amount of time. My doctor decided that cymbalta was not a wise choice and decided to take me off all drug for a month to clean my system of all medications. SIDE EFFECTS OF CYMBALTA MADE MY LIFE HELL!!! I couldnt function…. I had huge amounts of head pressure, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression, shortness of breath, unability to concentrate, shaking, trembles and many more! Get off while you can!
Q: Duloxetine (Cymbalta)?
Somebody in treatment with Cymbalta?
As soon as time they began to notice positive effects of the medication.
I have been 8 days with 60 mg of Cymbalta and the only thing that I have observed like positive effect is that I conciliate but fast the dream, but I have not felt another positive change How long I must hope? it tell me of your experience, not links nor texts copied of google.
A: Anti-depressants tend to do two things in your brain, and one take a great deal longer than the other.
Cymbalta is an SNRI which means that it affects the hormones Seritonin and Norepinephrine (I’m sure I murdered the spelling). As soon as you start taking the Cymbalta, it tells your nerve cells to release more hormones. This happens very quickly, within a few days of starting the drug.
Cymbalta’s second job takes longer. When you have depression, it’s not just that your brain isn’t getting enough hormone, it’s that your brain doesn’t know what to DO with the hormone. Cymbalta makes your nerve cells more receptive to those hormones. It does that by actually changing the way the hormones get to the nerves. It can take weeks or even months to feel the full effects of the drug.
If it’s not helping after a month or so, talk to your doctor. Some drugs work for some people, some don’t. I tried Cymbalta and it didn’t work for me. But then I got on Effexor, another SNRI, which has been really effective.
Give it time, seek talk-therapy for your symptoms. Get plenty of rest, avoid alcohol and caffiene, and take care of yourself.
There’s hope! I’ve finally got my meds under control and I’ve never felt so healthy in my life!
Q: can stress or anxiety give you a nose bleed?

A: Hiya viks, i used to get pressure in the head feelings and nose bleeds sometimes, also some meds will say do not take aspirin or similar blood thinning agents, so that may be a factor, i think the bleeds let out the pressure so i always felt better after wards, it should stop and settle down, i get the impression u r going through different stages with the meds on your way to recovery and i always think personally that if something different is happening then it’s gotta be good, Dave x

i look a bit stupid really
is this common
A: Hi Vici
Your psychiatrist is right, the things you describe are very common withdrawal effects when coming off medication.
I’m sure that he wouldn’t have suggested that you try without medication if he didn’t think you were ready to give it a go, believe me I’ve asked many times and been told that it wasn’t a good idea. As long as you go along with any advice that both the psychiatrist and GP give you, and they will be taking care and keeping an eye on you, then if you feel it’s what you want, then give it a go. Worst thing that can happen is that you try and then decide that you felt better taking meds, in which case you can go back on them.
For myself, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need them and they help me, so I’m going to carry on taking them for the rest of my life, if necessary. After all if I had a heart condition I wouldn’t think twice about taking that medication, would you?
Try this link to the Mind website, it should answer some of your questions

Hope this helps, and good luck with whatever you decide it best for you.
Q: I’ve been taking Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for almost 4 weeks now… Can I stop?
I heard what antidepressants can cause and I’m scared.. I’m feeling better now so I want to stop my medications… Can I stop it? What might happen if I stop it?
I want to live my life normally without any medication.
I’ve been on medication because I’m a hypochondriac. I didn’t mean to say I’m better because I don’t think those things anymore.. I still do. Which makes me wonder if the medicine is really working or not. I want to stop the medication because I feel I’m getting worse because of it.. I want to try to stop to see whether I can make it without it or not.. (I know of some people who became a lot better when they stopped their antidepressants)
A: The fact that you feel better means they’re working – not that you’re actually feeling better or that you’re depression is gone – look inside the pack on the leaflet it says ’some patients may stop because they start feeling better – you should not do this because it just means your medication has kicked in’, i’ve made that mistake don’t be fooled – nothing bad will happen, you’ll just come crashing down like a brick wall in 2 weeks when it flushes out of your system.
I’m not saying a medication free life is impossible, it is for some people depending on the cause of their condition – i.e. mine is mostly genetic so I’m screwed – but if yours is caused by something, then through getting to the bottom of it under the guidance of professionals and resolving it – you should be off it.
Either way, its a bumpy road ahead and you’re going to get used to it quite quickly.
Q: my dog ate 1 of my cymbalta pills 60 mg ,can it kill her? she weighs 18 lbs?
she ate medication cymbalta 60 mg , other name of drug is duloxetine. she is small boston terrier and weighs 18 lbs . i am afraid it will hurt her plz help
A: Phone your vet and ask THEM, or phone one of the several pet poison hotlines and ask them. People here might know if common over-the-counter stuff is dangerous (like aspirin, ibuprofen, pepto, etc) but no one here will know if that specific anti-depressant will harm your dog. The vet can give you instructions to induce vomiting if she’s just ate it, that’s probably the safest route. In general, assume all human medications are dangerous when administered to a dog unless your vet has specifically told you otherwise.
Q: Does anyone believe in Cymbalta?
I believe that Duloxetine (Cymbalta) is one of the best antidepressants out there. I have been practicing psychiatry for over twenty years and I think that Cymbalta really is a great medication. With the exception of a few complaints of side effects, my patients actually like it. I don’t hear of half of the complaints that I do of Zoloft, and Effexor and so on. I mostly work with children and adolescents so I have to be extra careful when prescribing, but are there any other mental health professionals on here that strongly agree with my statements?
A: Dr, do you really think this is the proper forum to ask “other mental health professionals” about the reactions of their patients to Cymbalta. I think one can count on the fingers of one hand how many Drs. (including those with a specialty in Psychiatry) are on YA at any given moment and then have 4 fingers left over. Your polling should be done with other Psychiatrists and Drs. in your city. have much better.
And do you really mean to ask “Does anyone BELIEVE in Cymbalta?” I believe in the existence of lots of things. I think your question should read. “Are you on Cymbalta; how is it treating you.” Or If you prescribe Cymbalta, what is your patient’s experience?”
Would you actually ask a patient whether they believe in Cymbalta?
I certainly would not ask my clients if they BELIEVE in a medication.
Pardon my skepticism, but I am beginning to seriously doubt that you “have been practicing psychiatry for over twenty years” when you ask a question worded this way.

Q: Quetiapine and its effect?
I have to take 50mg in a morning along with 30mg Duloxetine and it really knocks me about (feel really dopey and tired). But when I take my night dose 100mg it hardly affects me. Does anybody else have this problem with this medication?
A: Lower doses are more sedating than higher ones. Also, combining it with Duloxetine might be compounding the problem. And… Seroquel can just be funny like that. Your response is not uncommon. Ask your doc about moving part of the morning dose to the evening – that’s the best advice I can give.
Q: Are the following medications available in Germany:?
Cymbalta (duloxetine Hcl), Provigil (Modafinil)? Do German pharmacies carry these medications?
A: I live in Germany right now, and there are a lot of American places here. I don’t know about those specifically, but there are many American type places here in Germany.
Q: Prescription Assistance Program (Free Medicine Program) how do you get you’re meds?
I am taking a few very expensive medication and I am now disabled I live in Texas. And since I am now disabled I do not have health insurance. And I do not qualify for medicaid and I don’t get medicare til next year. I heard about Prescription Assistance Program from the drug companies where they give you free medication. How dose this work? Do you get you’re medication in the mail or do you have to pick it up at a pharmacy or doctors office? How long do they help you and how much free medication will they give you? The Medication I take is for Bipolar disorder and Borderline personality disorder (BPD). The medications I am taking are.
1. Seroquel (Quetiapine) 25MG 2 times a day
2. Seroquel (Quetiapine) 400MG 2 at bed time
3. Cymbalta (Duloxetine) 1 in the morning.
And I know each one of those drugs qualifies for the Prescription Assistance Programs from the companies that make them. Thanks for you’re time and have a good day.
I am now starting to go to a free Mental health clinic in Texas call MHMR (Mental health and Mental retardation). I have my first appointment with the doctor is in a few weeks I know they will help he get on these programs. I just needed to know how it work before I get there so hopefully someone how uses the Prescription Assistance Program (Free Medicine Program) can tell me how it works.
A: It depends on the program. Some mail them to the patient, other to the doctor. You can call each programs phone# and ask. I’ve had patients on meds that fit in both categories. I don’t do mental health, so I don’t know about your two meds.
Good luck.
Q: Is there any other deaf (and hearing people) who experience hearing voices?
I am deaf/hearing impaired (born profoundly deaf)… and I do hear voices… in both ways… from my ears and inside my head.
I suffer from major depressive disorder, anxiety, and psychotic disorder.
I hear voices from my ears but cannot get what words they’re saying. Sometimes I can pick out some words that I’ve heard, but it just make me even more confused, cos I don’t know what they want, and they do get angry alot cos they think I’m not listening to them.
I hear voices inside my head as well, they are called “LOUD THOUGHTS” and its real, it feels like its not my own thoughts, like someone just went inside my head and took control…
“LOUD THOUGHTS” they sound a bit like voices but more like a loud echoing… its hard to explain.. but its very real, and scary, and you cannot control them, they would come up without warning.
I am taking medication for it… I’m on anti-psychotic Zyprexa and anti-depressant Duloxetine as well. I just started on Zyprexa.
I just wonder if there’s any other deaf out there who has experience this as well? and hearing people too…. ???
A: my brother was diagnosed as schizo-effective and he was hearing voices telling him to do things. now that he is stabilized on medication he is fine.
Q: depression question (again sorry)?

A: You mention that you have PTSD. One of the hallmarks of it is a “numbed out” state of mind where like you said – don’t feel anything. This can happen when you are in a trigger situation, it is the mind’s way of dealing with trauma. It is as though you are not connected to your emotions. One of the things that meds can do is dull the pain (not take it away but make it more manageable.
I hope that you have a supportive therapist or can discuss this with your doctor.
Take care and I wish you the best.
Q: if i got a migraine and was already taking medications would the only sign i have a migraine be dizziness and?
i am on tryptophan, duloxetine and i took some paracetamol and codiene last night for a bad headache is it possible that the dizziness i felt this morning could be from a migraine rather than a reaction to the mixture of tablets
the psychiatrist said i could take all of these medicines together and it would be ok
but today i felt so light headed and nearly fainted at work
dazzy and sick
thank you
xxx
A: It’s probably the mixture of tryptophan and codeine. They won’t cause any physical damage but they can make you feel disorientated.
You obviously have issues in your life that you need to resolve. Taking medicines can relieve the symptoms, but they won’t cure the cause. Your psychiatrist should be able to recommend some therapy to help you address these issues.
