A: If you take them more than once a day, take one less dose a day until you’re down to one dose a day. Do this every 5-7 days. Then take the one dose every other day for about 5-7 days; then every two days, every three days, and so on. If you’ve been taking them a long time, weaning slowly is the best way to do it. I once had an acquaintance who went off anti-depressants cold turkey and the myelin sheath on her nerves was sloughed off, creating intense nerve pain. Be careful.

A: Yes you can get medicine without prescription. Don’t even bother about getting any paper or bottle just ask for that brand and most probably they’d give you a generic or something similar. I have been on Wellbutrin SR 300 for about 3 yrs, and Effexor XR 150 for about 16 months. my husband changed jobs & his new job has no insurance, I can get insurance through my job but not until Aug 1. I called my doc & told him the situation, asked for any samples but they didnt have any. their best advice was they’d call in the rxs to Costco bcuz that was supposed 2b the cheapest. when i called the pharmacy found out it was still going 2b $150 for each rx, for 1 month (that was w/generic welb but there was no gen eff). anyway i didnt have $$ to buy them, w/husband just changing jobs & we’ve also just moved. A: I know the feeling. The best, cheapest and easiest remedy is exercise – at least 1 hour per day, every day. This will help with your withdrawal symptoms and your depression. Eat lots of turkey, fish, bananas, flax seeds and soy protein. Avoid fatty, fried foods and junk food. Try Kava, Valerian, or Chamomile to stay calm. Take a B-complex vitamin supplement each day. Use mediation, prayer or other relaxation techniques. Get back on the meds as soon as you’re able and pressure your government to offer universal health care so you won’t have to worry about losing coverage again!!!

Q: Problems with takeing Effexor Xr, PLEASE HELP!!!?
I have been taking 225mg of Effexor for about year and a half and since I don’t have medicade anymore I had to quit cold turkey. I have been off effexor for 3 days now and the side effects are horrable.Headache, stomach ache, diarrea, twitches, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, some mood changes, blurred vision, lost of appetite, weakness, and dry mouth. And most of the time I can’t walk or sit up too long without feeling these side effects.
Is there anything that you can buy at your local Wallgreens that might help with my problems? I have tryed advil, IBP, Excedrin, and tylenal but nothing works.
And how long do these side effects take to wear off? If there is anyone whom have had the same experiences, please help! Thank you!
I was cut off medicade because I finished High School. And my father reported it, so no he says that he does not want to pay. The reason why I can’t pay for my medication is because I have no job right now. (And there is no way I can get one at the moment feelin like this) So I been in the process of trying to get it free by the goverment programs. But by the looks of it, it going to take awhile. So thats why I am asking these questions.
A: The effects you are experiencing should be mostly gone in about 2 weeks, however, if you were doing well on your medication then you should still be on it. Why are you off Medicaid? Are you over their money limit? Talk to a pharmacist and let him tell you how you can continue on your medication under the medicaid program. There must be some way that you can obtain this drug without going broke. Call the state government and see what they have to say about getting back on medicaid. Perhaps your MD can help?

Q: I take Effexor XR 150 mg qd. I ran out yesterday. Can I take plain Effexor until I have my Rx filled?
I have been on Effexor XR for almost 2 years and have had goon results with it. I have ran out before and missed doses, but I do not like the dizziness and nausea that occurs. It is Memorial day, and honestly I cannot afford the 50 dollar co pay to refill it until next Friday… but there is some 50 mg plain effexor here….would it be close enough until I can buy my RX?
A: You would need to take 3, but it will not be as long acting as the XR & it’s possible you will experience some side effects you probably don’t with the XR. …that’s why they make XR (long acting) it produces less side effects.
I agree with other answerer that pharmacists will often give you tablets to hold you over till Fri.
In a pinch you can use the plain Effexor.

I need links and/or feed back and opinions. I have been googling it, but i just get a lot of sites about where to buy it. I need real user’s opinions, side affects they mayhave encountered stc.,. I have been on it for only 3 days, and i got on the scale and i was like 4 lbs heavier today!!!! omg! I have not eaten anything or drank alcohol or anything that should put that kind of weight on me. I think it would be too quick for even the effexor to make that happen. I am puzzled and feeling pudgy. And before i saw the scale — i was actually feeling like i was beginning to get on a losing streak — ugh – just adds to the damn depression! A: Lots of people gain wait on SSRIs or SNRIs, just be more conscious of what you eat and try to do some cardio. I have heard effexor makes some people go crazy, and for some people it works really well. I was on cymbalta which is an SNRI like effexor and it made me go crazy.

I started taking Effexor for depression and anxiety. My doctor gave me a months worth of samples, and I was amazed at how it worked without making me feel “drugged” I had never taken anti depressants before and despite my 30 year struggle with depression and anxiety I never thought about taking them. After taking 37.5mg of Effexor for a week I switched to 75mg. At the beginning there were some unpleasant side effects like headaches, sleeplessness and spacey feelings, but after two weeks went by I felt better than I have felt in years.
I went to the pharmacy to fill my prescription and was shocked when the monthly cost was $175! I called my doctor to see if he could call in a generic, but there is no generic for this drug. Instead he called in a prescription for paxil. I was hesitant to start taking a completely different drug after A. having such satisfying results from the initial drug and B. the potential side effects.
I cannot afford the Effexor. I went ahead and bought one month of it on my credit card just because I was out of the samples. and I couldn’t talk to my doctor personally, but next month I will have a decision to make. I feel like this has been such an amazing blessing and I don’t want to mess it up by switching to a cheaper, but inferior drug. The thought of ever feeling like I used to feel makes me want to die. Does anyone have any experience with switching directly from Effexor to Paxil. Does anyone know of any programs available for low income people to get discounted, name brand drugs?

I am also on effexor, and what I would be leary of with switching is the side effects when you go off of effexor. I once needed a refill and my doctor wouldn’t get back to me so I was out of it for a week. I seriously couldn’t drive I was so dizzy. It feels like someone is in your head dinging your brain with a tiny hammer…it’s a weird feeling.

I would go the route of prescription assistance. Most patients are on effexor for a year or so and it’s tough to switch medications.

A: There should be a use by date on the packaging somewhere if you still have the pills as they came, or in the little leaflet inside the box.
Q: Effexor XR and weight loss?
Ive been on Effexor XR for a week and 3days and I’ve lost 8lbs. I wouldnt say my appetite is gone, because I “feel” hungry but it doesnt take much to fill me up.
Im kind of worried because I dont need to lose weight. Im 19, 5′ 7” and I was at 130lbs, and now Im at 122lbs.
The other thing is I’ve having extreme constapation. I have not used the bathroom since I’ve started. I have tried milk of magnesia, and Senokot and nothing, so I finally bought suppositories…
So, will whole weight loss thing stop? And any ideas for the constapation?? thank u
A: Same for me lost weight ,as far as constipation goes increase your daily fiber and water intake. fruit and grains are good fiber.
you will probably level out once you have been on it a while
