Q: Effexor Medication?
My Mom was recently given the drug Effexor. Have any of you taken this drug and did it help you. Any side effects that you noticed?

A: Of all the ANTI’s I have taken Effexor was DEFINITELY the MOST effective….. took as as high as 225 MG’s….. I have a friend who is taking it right now and it has helped him as well. EVERYONE responds DIFFERENTLY…. HOWEVER it seems Effexor is one of the better drugs out there… just poll people on this site…. you’ll probably get alot of praise for effexor.

Q: I am being weaned off of my depression medication effexor has anyone else been on this medication?
I am being weaned off Effexor it is used for depression I was on it for almost five years and they just lowered my dose by 65mg’s. I have had crazy side effects and im up and down. I feel gross and tired not to mention irritable. I almost feel like I cant stand being in my own body.

Anyone have any insight into this? Been there done it? Help?

A: I have been on effexor since July 08.
I was put on 75Mg to start, then like most ppl I went down (Negativity State) and my GP decided to double my dosage to 150Mg.
My symptoms seem to worsen & I realised that I not to state any Negativity (show a Positive Outlook) if not I knew he would increase my dosage.
So at 6 months I asked if I could downsize my dosage as also my Psychologist thought it would be a good idea.
So I was downsized to 112.5mg; which requires 2 different capsules one of which is for 37.5mg which is only prescribed for 1 month only at a time. (this is very costly 2 capsules instead of 1)
Alas, on my last visit to my Psychologist I stated I was very emotional & teary (big mistake) he told me that I would not be coming off Effexor for a long time now.
FYI I was also diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in July 08 which has not helped me as it takes time to get this medication right also.
But, when you add this medication with Effexor, 2 Different BP Medications, Cholesterol Medication, Nexium for my delicate stomach, plus I also have to take Claratyne for Post Nasal Drip & my GP wants me to also take aspirin.
So, now since being diagnosed with T2 Diabetes My Cholesterol has got higher and I now have and extra type of BP Medication.
A Walking chemist Shop with Medication costing me over $200/Mth.
I Hate the side effects of all these medications: Nausea, Diarrhea,Headaches,Body Aches,Shakes,Insomnia, lack of confidence, anxiety, withdrawing from social life, becoming a recluse,Exhaustion,Eating all the wrong things, Confusion, Memory Problems, Dumb stupid actions I made which make no sense, Uselessness, No Confidence, Not wanting to get dressed, Laziness, Over thinking every conversation or scenario, Hopelessness, Undecided all the time. This past 9 Months has been the worst I have ever encountered. All I want is to feel somewhere near normal again!

Q: can you drink alcohol on zyprexa and effexor medication for bipolar?
just started on bipolar meds and still drink around 4 beers a night and have been smoking more cigs why is this? and also is it okay to skip my doctors appointment its been 2 weeks now since i started on the medication and have had no follow up

A: Please go see your doctor and tell him about the drinking. It is very possible that what you are doing is self-medicating.

Self-medication is extremely common among people with bipolar disorder, and other disorders. Before we are stable on meds, the only way we know how to cope with our symptoms is to use alcohol and/or drugs.

Zyprexa works on your central nervous system, and it’s really not a good idea to mix alcohol with it or any psychotropic drug for that matter. However, please continue to take your meds as directed.

You may have what’s known as a duel diagnosis if you are consistently drinking 4 beers a night. A duel diagnosis is someone who has a drug or alcohol problem along with a psychiatric disorder.

I urge you to be really honest with yourself and your doctor. There is hope for stability. Usually people with bipolar disorder need a combination of psychiatric care and therapy to cope with the disorder and the problems, like self-medication, that go along with it.

I am well versed in this myself as I drank heavily for years to alleviate my symptoms. However, for the most part it only made them worse. I am now on a combination of meds that has brought me relative stability and normality to my life.

Q: Is welbutrin a better medication than effexor?
I do not like the effexor side effects, and I need to switch medications but I am not sure which one I should suggest to my Doctor.

A: Do not be afraid to have a conversation about this with your doctor. Often he/she can discuss some more options. I have talked with some patients (I was on preceptorships) on switching to wellbutrin. Many of those said that wellbutrin has less side effects. I believe how ever wellbutrin is more expensive.(I’m not sure)
However, everyone responds to meds different. Hope this helps.

Q: Have any of you ever been on the anxiety medication called effexor?
and if so, have you ever got off of them? What was your side effects?

I have and I have been so horny.

A: Yep, it worked really good for me and it did make me that way too. Just be careful when you want to get off of it, you need to talk to your doc first to find out what to do because you can’t just stop taking it. You have to step down. The withdrawal is HELL!

Q: effexor medication for depression?
why does effexor medication give me energy?

A: Antidepressants affect mood by increasing or “saving” certain brain chemicals called “neurotransmitters. Different antidepressant medications affect different neurotransmitters. Effexor slows the chemical known as norepinephrine from being reabsorbed by the nervous system so that it can be used more effectively by the brain before it is eliminated by the body. Norepinephrine is a chemical that is used by the body’s “fight or flight” reaction to give us energy that we use in an emergency, or that allows us to think more clearly when we are under stress. This is one of the reasons you may feel more energetic. Also, depression itself causes feelings of fatigue and tiredness in many people, and when the depression is treated, most people will feel more alert, focused, and energetic.

Q: Have you taken the medication Effexor XR ? If yes I want to know did you lose weight or gain weight on it?
Share your experience with me. Lost weight, gained weight or no change in weight? And how long were you on the medication for?

A: i gained 15 pounds but that was over 9 months, its mostly it made me feel tired , so i didn’t want to excerise though.

Q: What alternative medication can be taken for effexor?
Efexor is a anti anxiety medication (allso a antidepressant)

A: all other antidepressants.

Exercise/general activity/cognitive therapy/assertive therapy/relaxation or breathing exercises/ desensitization/ coping strategies/ psychotherapy may also be worth looking in to.

Q: Effexor Medication Questions?
I suffer from panic disorder and depression for about 4 years now. A new doctor just put me on Effexor (Not sure of the dose) and took me off of Prozac.

So far from my research all I have found is horror stories about this drug and it is really worrying me. Has anyone taken it? What is it like?

Thanks so much — I am really concerned.
Prozac is no longer cutting it , been taking it for 3 years.

I have found information that withdrawal from the drug is terrible, even missing one dose can do terrible things.

A: I was on that stuff and never again. It is highly addictive and some people never get of the stuff as a result. I would not touch that poison if it was the last medication on Earth. There is a petition online about it -link below. The next link is to Crazymeds take on it. No one can, or should, tell you not to take it or to take, that is your call – you may be helped by it -but me, I would rather die than ever go near it again.

Q: is their a medication like effexor xr15o mg?
i take 300 mg of effexor xr it is expensive is there a similar medication where i do not have to take 2 pills

A: Have you tried a generic brand instead of effexor, they are usually cheaper

Q: If you stop taking Effexor XR will you start to loose the weight gained from the medication?

A: i accually lost weight but i was also working out everyday. even though i was working out my doctor found it odd that i lost weight. i didnt eat right but i did feel healthy.

Q: Which medication is better on depression prozac or effexor XR. I currently taking both and I feel one is more
I have heard efferox is a beeter drug and prozac has so many side affects. I don’t think I should be taking both.

A: A doctor would be insane to prescribe both medications! Stop taking the prozac!

You’ll mess yourself up taking both, even if they are different meds, you’re gonna end up a pile of crap that no doctor can help.

Q: Does anti-depressant medication(Effexor in my case) interact with FAT Burners supplements?

A: It’s probably a good idea to ask your doctor or the pharmacist where you got your prescription filled. They’ll be able to give you more information about how supplements interact with prescription medications.

It’s a good idea to check before you take anything with your medication. Good for you for thinking about this before taking the fat burner.

Q: Should I change medication? Effexor?
Hi,

I’m currently taking effexor but my depression has been particularly bad lately and feel I need an increase in dose.

However, I get awful side effects (brain zaps, night sweats to the point i have to change the sheets daily, terrifying nightmares) and I’m scared that increasing the dose will make the side effects worse!

Should I think about changing medication? Because the thing is, I’m also scared about coming off Effexor…I’ve heard some real horror stories, and if I am late with my dose by a few hours it makes me feel dreadful.

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks!
Thankyou for all the responses, I have been on Effexor (XR) for about a year now on a dose of 150mg after having absolutely no results from prozac :(

A: If your side effects are bad enough, you should talk to your doctor about switching meds. They won’t just take you completely off of Effexor all at once, they’ll ween you off so you don’t get bad effects from it.

Esk- that’s NOT true. It is YOUR health and you’re in charge of it. If your doctor isn’t listening to your suggestions without giving you a logical reason why you can’t try something else, then you need to find another doctor who WILL listen.

Q: Question About Effexor Medication ?
What do you all think about Effexor? My therapist and I are talking about it. Do you have any advice before I confront my Doctor?
Thanks for any Help!!!

A: It is a potent SNRI, though most SNRI’s are ‘potent’ given they work on two receptor channels. Nonetheless, venlafaxin has been proven through studies and MORE importantly through anecdotal reports to be extremely effective in those it works with, in those it doesn’t.. well..on to the next AD.

If you didn’t already know finding the right AD for your brain is often trial and error, very rarely do you find it right off the bat. Sometimes though.

The only thing I would consider talking with your doctor about is the side effect profile (to prepare you before you start.. because you could feel worse before you feel better).. and the potential withdrawal that can come if you ever decide to get off.

This withdrawal won’t occur if you take it for a short period,.. but if you take it for a decade and then want off.. it can cause some symptoms. Again, not in everyone,.. just something to be aware of, though imho not something to prevent someone who NEEDS it to not take it.

I would ask WHY this particular medicine over the others?

Beyond that, get straight the dosing schedule,.. and see what happens.
