After having tried i have been prescribed Escitalopram oxalate. How long will it take to get the complte effect. First week i felt very better but again nothing. How long you would say that I would feel the complete efftect of the medicine. How long this med could be taken safely
A: get to your physician man.Its dangerous to get info from amateurs.
Q: I am using, using Escitalopram and Lamotrigine, Mirtazipine and the dr suggest me to take ciplar L.A?
I want to know why do we use ciplar L.A ?how it works? is it safe to take ciplar L.A with the obove written medicines?
Can i take tablets after drinking, Pepsi or coca-cola ?
A: You really need to ask your doctor these questions.
Ciplar is what’s called a beta-blocker. It is most often used for high BP, but sometimes for mild anxiety.
Q: Will stopping depression medicine after cure, improve in erectyle function?
I am taking depression tablet nexito 10 mg (generic name Escitalopram) for the past six months. I feel a lot better now and I am good at work and personal life. After 4 or 5 months of taking it I felt slight problem in erectyle dis-function. It took a long to erection to happen. My doctor advised that I can gradually decrease the dose. My question is will my libido and erection become completely normal if I stopped my medicine gradually as per doctors advise. I am also having schizophrenia treatment for the past 12 years and taking sizodon(Generic name Risperidon) plus(3 mg) one per day. Sizodon didn’t cause any erectyle problem. Kindly clarify my doubt. Thanks in advance.
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_SSRI_Sexual_Dysfunction
Escitalopram is part of the SSRI anti depressant class of drug and so should be relevant to the above URL.
To summarise though:
Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction side effects occur in less than 10% of patients. In more recent studies, doctors have specifically asked about treatment-emergent sexual difficulties, and found that they are present in up to 60% of patients. However, while sexual dysfunction is obviously very common while taking SSRIs, the problem of persistent dysfunction after discontinuation does not appear to be as frequent…
I hope this is of some help
Q: can escitalopram oxalate 10mg cause addiction.?
please tell me if daily intake of this medicine 10mg tab cause addiction, and does it effects the sexual behaviour of a person.
A: No it will not cause addiction. It is an antidepressant and it does affect levels of dopamine. It has relatively no action on the reward pathways in the brain. It will not cause addiction.
Now for sexual activity, anti-deps are known to mess with libido. SSRIs particularly can lower one’s libido. Only Wellbutrin doesn’t seem to have this effect. But from experience I can say that with Escitalopram, it has the best side-effects profile amongst SSRI anti-depressants and it affects libido (sex drive) the *least*. However, please bear in mind that everybody responds differently to drugs.
Hope this helps
Q: how to get rid of Depersonalization and Derealization?
i am 13 and have had Derealization for a month or two and so badly want to get rid of it, i have anxiety, paranoia, depression and have councilling ( she doesnt undestand that i have Derealization) im on escitalopram 10mg and was on quetiapan 25 mg. i might be getting a medicine change.
Now to the question how do i get rid of Depersonalization and Derealization.
thanks.
linda i have never smoked weed geez
A: augh, that stuff is horrible and scary, I feel for you. as for derealization, doing something physical can really help, running cold water over your hands or feet. also feeling the textures of things around you, and paying more attention to little details of things that surround you. and hugging someone you love can be really good medicine. I hope that helps even a tiny bit. be gentle with yourself, don’t be hard on yourself. take care!
Q: Tianeptine to aid emotional-blunting caused by lexapro?
I was given tianeptine (stablon) in december 2009 end for what to my GP appeared to be endogenous depression and anxiety. On his advice I saw a psychiatrist. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression on Jan 08 2010. My prescription was a 10mg Escitalopram to be taken in the morning. I took this medicine as prescribed. The anxiety was taken care of in 10-12 days and in the 3rd week or so I felt its anti-depressive effect… I felt a little hyperactive, talkative and excited. This lasted for a couple of days, but the insomnia that came alongside made my situation bad. I had a bad bout of depression and also felt quite apathetic and strange in days to follow – anxiety was back too.
On 4th feb, Mirtazapine 15 Mg was added – as sleep aid and as anti-dep to augment Escitalopram. The Mirtazapine gave me good sleep no doubt, though initially I felt anger and agitation. In its 5-6th day my sadness started disappearing and a happy mood came over – mainly in the evenings. after 9 days on Mirtazapine-escitalopram combo – I felt suddenly like I have no emotions/feelings etc – it made me quite uncomfortable and wretched and I decided to cold-turkey on both meds. I think I dont know if stopping the drugs made much difference. I restarted Escitalopram on 20th Feb, and have been taking it for 5 days now. I do feel that emotionally I still feel blunted – I lack motivation – and have again started feeling dysphoric moods – without melancholic feelings – just very wretched and dumbed – i tend to blame it on some anger of not being able to feel all emotions – or perhaps(and hopefully) it is just my fear/belief that I have this so called emotional-blunting. I could call it lack of excitability – lack of full range of emotions.
I know it would be absurd to think, but could it be possible that the Escitalopram-Mirtazapine combo could have caused a permanent emotional-blunting effect?
I changed my pdoc yesterday – but he advised me to continue escitalopram 10mg for a week and added 0.25 mg clonazepam for anxiety (perhaps for my reporting of feeling irritable).
I have heard that benzodiazepines can worsen depression – cause dysphoria. This particularly makes me scared because past 2 days I have felt spells of wretched moods – adding clonazepam could worsen this?
I would like to know if Tianeptine could be added to Escitalopram in a hope to provide offset for emotional-blunting effect.
I am in dire need to start a new life – not being able to be emotionally fully active would be surely unwanted. Plus my profession demands me to be creative and sensitive.
My escitalopram pattern has been:
8th Jan 2010 – 13 Feb 2010 – 10mg once daily
13th-19th Feb – None
20th onwards – 10mg once daily
A: You are a pill “junkie” trying to control your emotions with medications. See www.psychconflicts.org for the truth about psychiatry’s fascination with “Big Pharm.” See the Feb. 08, 2010 issue of Newsweek magazine for an article entitled, “The depressing news about anti-depressants”. by Sharon Begley. She says that “Studies suggest that the popular drugs are no more effective than a placebo”(sugar pill). “They may be worse!”
Try positive thinking. Enter “learning to think positive” into a Yahoo! web search for links on how to overcome negativity, anxiety and depression. Better yet get a copy of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s book, “The Power of Positive Thinking” from your public library or from amazon.com, read it and apply his principles.
Q: Is it true that Lexapro is cooler than the other SSRIs?
I have been doing research on this drug. Seems really good. Someone wrote their experience on it and says there is raving about this drug. At the website drugs.com there is more reviews for Lexapro than any other Depression drug. And yet it ranks higher than them all. But only a little bit. Still, Wellbutrin which gets a lot of good marks is .4 points less than Lexapro. It is out of 10. It has recorded less side effects and less chance of side effects too. Looks quite the medicine.
CNN did a study and topped it with Zoloft as the most effective Antidepressant.
At http://www.emedexpert.com/compare-meds/escitalopram.shtml , its shown stronger and with less side effects than all other SSRIs. Its more likely to be stable and more likely to have a remission. It has lesser chance of side effects too.
It seems in every way better than all other SSRIs and more specific too. Is this true?
A: each person is unique in the way they will respond to antidepressants, I took Lexapro, it did not work for me at all. But it is only an ssri….now there are new antidepressants called snri, they work on two pathways in the brain, not just the one that ssri works on. The one I take is called Pristiq. It is a snri, (serotonin, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor). But as I said, each person is unique and no two will respond the same way to any drug.
Q: Stopped antidepressent 8 months ago, still having low sex desire – Plz suggest remedy?
I had been taking Tab nexito(Escitalopram oxalate) from Jan 2006 to Nov 2006 for my anxiety and depression problem. First 3-4 months with 20mg dosage but after that with 10mg. The day i started to take Nexito tablet i lost sex desire. I informed my neuro-psychiatrist and he added bupron sr-150. Now i’m cured for my anxiety and depression and because of lack of knowledge without tappering off gradually i stoped those medicines suddenly in Nov 2006. i experienced some side effects but they r gradually decreasing. But my concern is with my sex desire. It is almost zero. I’m without any medicine since Dec 2006 but still my sex desire has not increased. I’m a newly married, Could u plz suggest some remedy with less side effects. I’ll be grateful to u forever.
A: You are newly married. Your spouse shall be looking forward for a period of vigorous sex at this time, no matter how very understanding he or she is for a while. In addition to posting this question in this Forum and possibly getting good response you would better be advised to consult a good specialist and unreservedly put all facts and obtain advise and medication.
May you have a problem solved at the earliest and enjoy you life well.
Q: what is my mental state?
I had panic attack when my mum died years ago. i had to take medicine for almost a year then spend anxiety free time without meds for three years.
Those three years without anxiety were very very stressful, and i finally snapped at my cousins death. i was so scared i would die that i lost interest in my baby world and was just too scared. After all tests and reassiurances that i’m not having heart attack i started to work on my anxiety which took couple of months but i got hold of that without going to doc. its been 6 months. i do feel anxious etc sometimes but now i try to not let panic attack get me. so wt started my body parts started to get numb head, back, arm, hands face etc.
doc put me on med, escitalopram but i had severe reaction so doc stopped it in few days. now he gave me relaxin at night for seven days then see him again.
WHERE AM I HEADING? what am i going to develop menatlly.
I had idle life but i have started excercise and positive attitude, but what should i do…..is it enough?
THree years without medicine were very stressful coz of inlaws problems but i was living without anxiety attacks.
A: It sounds like this is something you should ask your doctor (a psychiatrist hopefully). It does sound like you’re headed in the right direction – exercise and a positive attitude help more than most people would guess. Walks outside help, too. I spend a few minutes before I go to bed alone in the living room – it gives me a moment or two to get things in perspective a little.
I hope the stress of the in-laws (or in this case “out-laws”
has gone away, that would help.
Best of Luck to You
Q: I eat 18 boiled eggs (only whites), 9 Bananas & 1Revital capsule per day and nothing else.?
Age: 31
Weight:60
Height: 5′6″
I want to continue with the above diet if there is no danger even if it is not the ideal diet. I work in a BPO where I’ve to sit in front of a computer for almost 60hrs a week. I do yoga and a little bit of weights.
Medicines: Clonazepam 1mg per day (for anxiety) and Escitalopram 20mg per day (for depression) under psychiatric supervision.
I repeat I want to stick to my diet until and unless you predict any major problems. I know it is not an ideal diet but being a bachelor staying on my own I’ve apapted myself to it for convenience sake. Except for the Revital capsule I take the others in 3 equal portions (breakfast, lunch & dinner). 6 egg whites and 3 bananas at one time. Revital only one capsule per day alongwith breakfast.
Anticipating a quick and satisfactory response
Thanks & Regards
Surya
A: I trust your weight is 60kg, please confirm. The egg whites are mainly protein and mainly albumin, so you are getting a poor protein profile for starters. Your diet is woefully lack of calcium, you need 1200 mg. of calcium daily. The bananas are a good fiber and potassium as well as carbs. Overall your diet is not great, I do not know why, other than some sort of obsession, that you want to stay on a diet like this. It is your choice but you are not doing yourself a favor in the long run.
Q: social anxiety… medicines dont work? and general advice…?
i’ve been aware of my social anxiety for 5 years now. i thought id be able to figure it out myself, until i realized i needed help
so a lil over a year ago, i went to the counsellor… basically he didn’t help me at all…
I did end up going to a psychiatrist, and have been seeing him for lil over 6mths now. he’s given me escitalopram oxalate tablets (called Nexito), and i visit him once every 2-3 weeks… was taking 10mg, then 15, and now back to 10.
so my point is… i feel like i haven’t improved at all. the meds have had no effect. i still cant talk to people. i’m living alone, no one knows im taking meds, nor can i tell anyone about it. Wondering if i should continue seeing the psychiatrist. i dont feel he’s helped me much.
feel like i’m losing hope, bcoz i really have been trying. besides i guess loneliness is really creeping in…away from home, never dated, cant talk to people. it was super difficult to approach a psychiatrist, and now i feel im left helpless. any advice?
A: SSRI are known to be very ineffective for social anxiety (http://www.socialfear.com/ ) . However this is only the case if the social anxiety is the ONLY problem.
CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is an extremely effective method if conducted correctly. That is, if your therapist is an expert in giving this.
Your psychiatrist should have started giving/suggesting CBT before or at least in combination with the medication. The fact that your psychiatrist has only given you medication is very bad.
EDIT:
On the other hand CBT already requires a level of social interaction that may be too much at this stage. You may need to ask for other meds or to increase them. But in the end only CBT can help.

My Doctor give me both ssri and snri , like in mornning i have to take ssri (Lexapro (Escitalopram Oxalate)) and in night snri (venlafaxine) and Alprazolam for both mornning and night? the real question is taking SSRis and Snris in a day with Alprazolam is alright?

A: Dude, you’re a walking pharmaceutical add. Lose the drugs, improve your diet, exercise, and get back to nature once in a while.
