Q: Is anyone here on the medication zyprexa?
Is anyone here on the medication zyprexa? If so, is it currently or in the past, helped you, within your medications, you’ve taken?
A: Yes I am, and I am on it for anxiety. It has definitely helped me out alot. I have been on it for the past year and have noticed a big difference within myself.
Q: Is it possible to feel suicidal & depressed if I stop my medication (Zyprexa & Citolopram)?
I have been on these two medications for approximately two-four weeks. I did not take my medication for two nights and now I feel totally depressed along with suicidal thoughts.
Is this normal or is it some unusual side effects of the medication?
Zyprexa – 10mg
Citolopram – 20mg
A: yes
regards x kitti x
Q: What’s the process of being weened off medication (zyprexa)?
specifically 10 mg
A: The process is to tell your doctor you don’t want it anymore and taketheir advice on how to stop and what to replace it with. People don’t get prescribed Zyprexa for no reason, and there is a good chance you will have a rebound effect where you symptoms come back stronger than they were before.
Q: I’m on 20mg of Zyprexa per day – has anyone else taken this medication and how did you go?
I just lost a job and have severe anxiety and anger.
Has it relieved anxiety for anyone else?
I take it at night. Its only anxiety – Im not suffering skitsophrenia.
I found I was getting really anxious about people hating me etc and not coping with the thoughts.
Can I function on Zyprexa normally? I want to be taking it when I start a new job so I dont get anxious?
A: Mainly weight gain but I was on it for psychosis and suspected schizophrenia. Though I was only on 7.5mg. I came off it and got put on Abilify.
Q: Medication – Zyprexa – loss of interest?
I’m 15 and I take 2.5mg tablet of Zyprexa every night and I started them on Tuesday – they’re to calm my anxieties.
It definetley works for that, but I was wondering if they cause a loss of interest in things??
I was in my GCSE mocks last week and although they made me calmer about them and I didn’t have that knot in my stomach, it was almost as if I didn’t care about them and I wasn’t interested in them any more?
I tried my best nonetheless, but still….
Thanks
uhh excuse me?
of course i revised for my mocks :/
go away.
A: Yep zyprexa does wonders for anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar, but feeling like a zombie is a common side effect as is losing interest in things. You have to decide whether the side effects are worth the benefits. Good luck.
Q: BPD and medication..zyprexa…?
Hi,
i have been dignosed with BPD. and i was put on 20mg of zyprexa and recently told too drop my dose to 15mg and i was in tears and down and crying all the time so we rang him and he said to put it back to 20mg and he said he thought it would happen . why let me try to put the dosage down if he knew it would happen! any tips or idea’s what i should do.?
and idea what i could do to make me happy everyday i miss my babies and cry alot of the time i’m on efexor xr 225mg as well and i have ptsd, my kids were taken because of mental illness any help appreicated and i was sexually abused when i was 11 years old.. it still annoys me and i get sad everyday!
Lollie xx
A: I am sorry you are having such a bad time. Your BPD is likely to be a result of your childhood sexual abuse, as is your PTSD. It is very important that you have a very good therapist who is very knowledgable about sexual abuse, and can help you to get good treatment for the PTSD. It is sometimes difficult to get the doseage right for these sorts of drugs, so you need to keep working with your doctor or your therapist. It would be good for you to work with someone who can help you to re-structure your life a bit, so there might be a possibility of your having some contact with your kids in a safe environment (safe for you and safe for them). See if you can talk to a social worker at a women’s health centre.
Q: Any ladies take or took ” Zyprexa” – nerve medication? How does/ did IT affect YOU?
I gained 20 lbs, due to it; it’s causing many persons to become Diabetic; My sister takes Seroquel and previously took Zyprexa; both caused her to gain MORE weight than I’ve gained, due to Zyprexa. – If you will—give reason your Doc prescribed it for you; mine – is for Bi-polar disorder (many years). I quit taking Zyprexa for 8 mo’s–two yrs. ago–after having taken it for 10 mo’s; while i was off it–I never got back to being my OLD-self; i was far too nervous, but still needed 12 hrs sleep per day! BEFORE I EVER TOOK IT–I ONLY NEEDED TOO MUCH SLEEP -SOMETIMES. -( AFTER STOPPING IT FOR 8 mo’s – i went back on it, due to extreme nervousness! I’ve been baCK ON IT APPRX. 2 1/2 OR 3 YRS. – I may try to Quit taking it Again. /// Can you relate/ or any comments; advice, etc! THANKS!!!! ( I have not developed Diabetees yet, i don’t think, anyway; but then my Doc hardly ever checks me for it– like Doc’s should!!!
A: zyprexa, like other treatments for bipolar disorder, schizoaffective dosorders, and atypical mood disorders, does have a high incidence of weight gain as a side effect. in my professional experience, i have noticed little benefit for prescribing zyprexa or seroquel for bipolar spectrum disorders, compared to lithium and divalproex (eskalith and depakote.) you should also realize that seroquel and zyprexa were originally developed as neuroleptic medications (treatment of psychotic symptoms such as delusion or hallucination) and these do carry a significantly higher risk of long term tardive dyskinesia, like all neuroleptics. they also have a much higher incidence of drowsiness and lethargy when compared to lithium or divalproex, and i have noted higher patient dropout for seroquel and zyprexa. if your symptoms are predominately anxiety or mood related, and you do not experience hallucinations, delusions, or other psychotic type symptoms, i would ask your doctor about your concerns, ask for regular blood tests for thyroid and liver function, and discuss the possibility of shifting to more traditional treatments for “nervous” or anxiety related symptoms like klonopin, ativan, or xanax. these effectively reduce anxiety with much less incidence or severity side effects.
Q: Which anti-psychotic medication works best, Clozaril or Zyprexa?
which one of those two medicine would be a much stronger or better treatment for those with severe mental illness which is paranoid (delusions) and bipolar maniac? Clozaril or Zyprexa?
A: Clozaril (Clozapine) is the best medication for chronic resistant psychotic symptoms. But you have to do regular Blood WBC/DC levels as suggested by your psychiatrist.
Q: Does Zyprexa Show Up In Drug Tests Or Give A False Positive?
I have to take a drug screen and do no want to disclose the fact that I am Bipolar. So I didn’t want to tell them I take Zyprexa, a medication for mania. Has anyone had any experience? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
A: I’m bipolar and on Zyprexa too and believe me, I understand your hesitation on future employers knowing that information! The answer is, no Zyprexa does not show up on drug tests nor is it a drug they test for. Some of the newer tests do test for Tricyclic Antidepressants though so if you are on any of those you need to list them. However instead of putting down Bipolar you can just put used for Depression which for some stupid reason is much more widely accepted. Effexor will test positive for PCP and there’s conflicting opinions about Lamictal testing positive for PCP as well. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Q: Which is the best medication for auditory hallucinations? Zyprexa or Seroquel?
A: I consider Zyprexa to perform better as an antipsychotic altogether. The side-effects are nastier than with Seroquel, though (especially the weight gain).
Q: Which anti-psychotic medication is safer? Clozaril or Zyprexa?
My brother suffered of Schizophrenia. It is severe that he has much delusion, thoughts disorder and emotional problem as well. However, he was on clozaril, but he lost it after he got out of the hospital. He have to wait until his local doctor makes a decision about whether to keep him on Clozaril, or make a switch. If you know, which one would be safer for him? Clozaril or Zyprexa? Also, if he takes Clozaril at 900 mg., do you think that would make him much better than below that?
A: Hopefully he is being seen by a Psychopharmacologist. These medications are safe as long as they are taken exactly as the doctor prescribes. Zyprexa can cause weight gain. When taking Clozaril I believe people need to have blood work done regularly to check the level of the medication in their system. I hope you brother will be doing better. Good Luck.
Q: 10 POINTS! Which medication would be most likely to give me diarrhea between Zyprexa, Emsam, and Buspar?
A: Emsam and Zyprexa can cause constipation, so of the three, Buspar (which mentioned no side effects related to bowels) would be most likely, based on a process of elimination. None of them mention diarrhea as a side effect though.
Q: medication?? bipolar?? seroquel vs. zyprexa?
I know how seroquel can make someone feel. Is Zyprexa like Seroquel? I know both can be used to treat bipolar but do they have the same side effects or is Seroquel stronger?
A: I hated both! Zyprexa was significantly less sedating than Seroquel, but it has its own problems – it made me stutter & although it didn’t make me drowsy it did make me ‘zoned’ out & appear drugged to others. It also has a horrible & scary profile in terms of weight gain. I couldn’t take it due to the stuttering. Seroquel allowed me to feel more like myself, but was very drowsy & again gained weight, but I didn’t care or have the energy to address it. Both will blunt your emotions. They are not necessary to treat bipolar unless you have severe & distressing psychosis! They are NOT mood stabilisers they are anti-psychotics, their *supposed* stabilising effect comes from the blunting & sedation imho. You really do need a mood stabiliser, they don’t take your energy & emotions away like the anti-psychotics, you feel yourself, but with less pronounced mood swings. Whatever you decide it should be your psychiatrist that decides not you, which medication is best.
Q: Possible medication switch (from zyprexa zydis to abilify discmelt)?
Ok. Here is my current situation. As some know, I’m currently taking Zyprexa Zydis 5mg/day. With Zyprexa, I am still getting some side effects. The worst one (though not too bad,… yet) is weight gain. I’ve gone from a size 32 to 34 and now the 34s are starting to get a bit tight. I’m also getting some regurgitation in my mouth (not sure what’s causing that). It’s hard for me to get up in the morning. Before zyprexa I would be able to get up and go @ 7am. Now I’m asleep until 9 – 10 and it takes about 15 minutes to get myself up and going. One time I slept till 11:30am. Because of the sleeping late, I think it’s affecting my ability to get to sleep at night. I go to bed between 10 – 11pm. In addition (though I hate to be gross), it’s hard to go #2. I’m like forcinig it to come out. I also think zyprexa is increasing my anxiety levels slightly. Now, the zyprexa (dispite all this) is doing good. I’m not irritable, screaming or hollering, or yelling @ my mom. Things are more peaceful.
Now what I’d like to do is (again) retry abilify, but instead of taking the pills, take the desolving tablets (abilify discmelt). The main side effect I got from abilify was restlessness (akathisia). I believe that won’t happen (or be less severe) since I’m at a stable dose with cogentin. I remember my mom telling the doctor I was calmer on abilify and cogentin together. The only other side effect I remember from abilify is insomnia but I have lunesta that can take care of that like I did before.
What I’d like to know is if I switch what should I watch out for? How can I ask the doctor to let me try abilify again? Will there be concequences from stopping zyprexa zydis cold turkey? Should I ask about a short term benzo treatment to help make the move easier?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Thanks agian,
Andy…
A: First off, don’t drop zyprexa cold turkey. You can probably switch to the abilify discmelt, though you’ll need to discuss it with your parents and your psychiatrist. It’s important to let them know about your current side effects. As for drug combinations, lunesta doesn’t have any known complications. As for cogentin, I don’t know.
Regardless, simply tell your psychiatrist that you’re interested in trying a different medication because your current medication is causing undesirable side effects.
Q: How long will it take for the medication to leave my body?
i’m currently taking 60 mg of Cymbalta, 150 mg of Wellbutrin, & 20 mg of Zyprexa. I want to get off the medication. I heard it’ll take 30 days. Also, what happens if i stop cold turkey?
A: It varies from person to person.
Have you consulted your doctor about this? I would recommend doing that before coming off your medications, because sometimes quitting cold turkey can cause some nasty withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will probably recommend gradually decreasing the dosage until its safe to quit them all together. Best of luck.
