Q: What is the Zyprexa medicine used for and what kind of medicine is that?
I’m curious of it.
A: … Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults…..Zyprexa tablets, velotabs and injection all contain the active ingredient olanzapine, which is a type of medicine known as an atypical antipsychotic
Q: what is the closest medicine to zyprexa?
does anyone know what is the closest/similar medicine to a major tranqulizer Zyprexa?
thanks, tehran
A: Seroquel is one that is similar to Zyprexa. Seroquel is a powerful tranquilizer like zyprexa that can be used for schizophrenia, treating bipolar mania, sleep disorders, and so on.
Q: Is there any court cases involving the medicine Zyprexa and what does it involve?
A: Seems it was causing people to develop diabetes.
On June 7, 2005, Eli Lilly and Christopher Seeger on behalf of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee in the federal Zyprexa MDL, announced a $700 million settlement of approximately 8,000 cases against El Lilly for allegations that the atypical anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa caused them to develop diabetes and diabetes-related injuries. The cases are pending in federal district court in Brooklyn before the Honorable Jack B. Weinstein.
Diabetes is a very serious condition with several serious complications. The lawsuits alleged that Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of the drug, failed to adequately warn patients and their doctors about the drug’s known association with diabetes and other injuries.
Q: Does anyone take a medicine called zyprexa?
Have any side effects happened to you?
Did it help you?
I feel very tired when I wake up and I sleep more than usual
A: My dad took zyprexa for anxiety, he had it pretty bad, but now since taking it he’s doing well. He at one stage could not leave the bedroom, and only go for walks at night, only feeling safe wearing dark colours for minimum attention.
He took zyprexa for half a year and the side affects we’ve noticed is that his gut has become really big (however its also due to gluten intolerance, this we’ve eliminated from his diet and is feeling much better) and apparently zyprexa increases anxiety though it is slightly more controlled. I don’t know much about it, what side affects have you had if you’ve taken it?
Q: im prescribed 15mg’s of zyprexa, i was wondering what is this medicine for and is 15mg high or low dose?
zyprexa (olanzipine)
is it possible my doc is tricking me and just telling me i have schizophrenia and actually prescribing me a placebo, in a zyprexa bottle.
A: Olanzapine has been considered as part of an early psychosis approach for schizophrenia. The Prevention through Risk Identification, Management, and Education (PRIME) study, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and Eli Lilly, tested the hypothesis that olanzapine might prevent the onset of psychosis in people at very high risk for schizophrenia.
Case-reports, open-label, and small pilot studies suggest efficacy of olanzapine for the treatment of some anxiety spectrum disorders (e.g. generalized anxiety disorder,[24] panic disorder,[25] post-traumatic stress disorder[26]); however, olanzapine has not been rigorously evaluated in randomized, placebo-controlled trials for this use and is not FDA approved for these indications. Other common off-label uses of olanzapine include the treatment of eating disorders (e.g. anorexia nervosa) and as an adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder without psychotic features. It has also been used for Tourette syndrome and stuttering.[citation needed] Olanzapine is also used in many addiction clinics as a sleep aid (usually 2.5–5 mg) due to its low abuse profile and zero addictive properties.[27]

Q: My dad is on 5 mg of Zyprexa and im on 500 mg of Depakote. which medicine is stronger?
Im a bipolar mix and hes bipolar 2. I want to know which one of us is worse.
Why do i have to avoid alcohol?
A: Most people diagnosed as bipolar aren’t.
The two drugs differ greatly in how they act. Zyprexa is an antipsycotic which promotes diabetes, it also causes sudden unexplained death in elderly patients.
Depakote originally was used for absence seizures in epilepsy, but marketing extended its uses. Watch out for liver problems, avoid alcohol and asprin or NSAIDS like advil or motrin.
Q: Which medicine is better for patients with Schizophrenia, Clozaril or Zyprexa?
My brother suffered of Schizophrenia since 1989. This is his 5th time in the hospital and he is back on the strongest medicine. He was on Clozaril last time in 2001, then two years later, the doctor changed the medicine, dosage or brought him to Zyprexa about two years later. My brother responded as good enough, but not as well like he used to. Then later on, he ended up not taking his Zyprexa or lower medicine like he used to, and then ended up in the hospital at Clozaril all over again. Why did the doctor changed his medicine? Why can’t he just stay with Clozaril indefinitely at 100mg for the rest of his life?
A: Every drug affect each person differently. So any answer would be based on personal experience, not fact. In my case, it was Invega that worked best for me. Prior to that I had taken: zyprexa, seroquel, rispredal, & abilify
Q: is zyprexa used as a sleeping medicine?
A: It can be; however, it’s not a good drug of choice. It has been linked to an increase in diabetes. I would not take it.
Q: how do i get off 25mgs of paxil and 10mgs of zyprexa?
Ive been taking paxil for about 8 years and i want to get off it
i managed to reduce my paxil from 50mgs to 25. When ever
i try to get off the paxil i get depressed after about 5 days of being
off it. Is there a natural remedy for depression and anxiety?
I also take 10mgs of zyprexa for paranoia and anxiety. Would
like to get off it to but when i try to go off it i cant sleep, and i get
real fearfull. I feel that if i go off my medicine i might have more
energy. And the paxil causes a false since of happiness., I feel
that going off my medication would help me expand my conciousnes.
A: maybe you should not get off of it because its cause you other problems!
Q: what atypical antipsychotic medicine has least side effects?
knowing that classes of medicine perform about the same, which atypical antipsychotic medicine gives the least amount of panic, anxiety, and anxiousness. I take Geodon right now, and I used to take seroquel, abilify, topomax, and zyprexa. I’m running out of options to be stabalized for work. I’m bipolar 1 mixed. Thankyou.
A: I’ve done best on risperdal at like one miligram for my tourette’s. Seroquel, that made me lose it, like go nuts. You just have to keep trying drugs out with your doctor until you find one that works for you. For me I had bad reactions to even Haldol. I’m talking dyskenesia…and delusions on ativan, geodon knocked me out, literally, abilify made me puke, topomax made me depressed and suicidal. So they all have heavy side effects…you just have to see which one works for you.
Q: Risperdal/Zyprexa in treating Borderline personality disorder emergency rage attack?
Do you think Risperdal or Zyprexa will be good medicine for treating emergency BPD rage attack?
A: Zyprexa is a good fast acting mood stabilizer that can be used either regularly or as needed. Risperdal is also good but I don’t think it’s as fast acting. Be aware though that both of these medications can increase appetite and cause weight gain when taken regularly. I would talk to a psychiatrist about it though and find what would be appropriate for that person.
When I worked with kids and teens with mental illnesses a lot of times Zyprexa or Risperdal would be given when their behavior got out of control (as in rage attacks). Vistaril was also a common one used but only as an emergency medication.
Q: What medicine has more side effects/seroius side effects Xanax or Zyprexa?
I was wondering out of Xanax and Zyprexa which has more side effects and which has more seroius side effects.Which would be safier to take for short term use to help fall asleep i have anxiety/paninc disorder.im taking Zoloft 25mg couple hours before bed but i just cant fall asleep since my paninc attack about 5days ago
or would Klonipin be a better choice? then both of them i just have bad axniety/panic and insomia i just cant fall asleep so thats why im goin to use one of those for short term until i get back to sleeping good i might also have a little depression..what ive researched seem to be that zyprexa isnt for anxiety but im not sure?
A: Xanax is for anxiety, its main problem is learning problems and memory loss, alcohol interacts to make this worse.
Zyprexa is an antipsychotic that gives an increased risk of diabetes, if your not psychotic you should discuss with your doctor the wisdom of using this for long term treatment.
Most people prescribed these medicines do not really need them, I do not know about you. Try playing classical music, like that available for free online at Sky Fm, excecise like swimming, biking, and long walks, as well as serious study of worthy topics like math or a foreign language to let your brain fixate on positive things.
Q: Are there any diet pills that actually work? To offset Zyprexa?
I’m putting on weight little by little because I’m on Zyprexa, which makes me really hungry and gives most people terrible weight gain. I’m scared! But if some meds can make you gain weight, shouldn’t there also be some that can legitimately make you lose it? What medicine could I take?
Thanks!
A: I’ve read on the internet of a study to see if the diabetes medication metformin in combination with diet and exercise could help patients loose weight from Zyprexa and other antipsychotic drugs. It turned out that the combination of metformin and diet and exercise did indeed help people loose weight.

Best of Luck,

Q: Is the Zyprexa lawsuit settlement money awarded to people taxable?
Cause I wanted to know if it is cause I am on of the injured people that took the medicine. I got type two diabetes.
A: most income will be taxable.
Q: I am taking my new medicine for bipolar disorder but still feel hypomanic. Should I ask for dose increase?
I am on Zyprexa 5 mg daily for almost 2 wks now. Feel good, but know I’m feeling too good. Am I expecting results too soon?
A: Two weeks is not enough time yet. So glad to see that you feel better. Rather than up the dosage (given a chance to let the medicine get into your body and make all the necessary changes) your Dr. may want to change meds. But, I think he will want you on your dosage for another 4 wks to 3 mos before making any changes. Good Luck!
